What is a Leader?

“A Leader is one who has a clear vision of the way ahead and through effective communication and empowerment can motivate the team to accomplish any mission successfully”  JTC, 1 Sep 2012

Decades of leadership across private, public, and military sectors have distilled my understanding of what constitutes an effective leader.

The Traits of  successful LEADERS:   

L – Lead by Example “Walk the Talk”

E – Ethical and Moral Character “Do the right thing”

A – Anticipate & Adapt “Plan for Contingencies to stay the Vision”

D – Develop others “Freedom to Fail and Empower the team”

E – Endurance “Mental & Physical toughness”

R – Responsible to and for the team “Protect & Care”

S – Selfless Service “Others before Self” 

The Enablers that make it possible to lead:

C - Communication “ Actively Listen and have Situational Awareness ” 

C- Compassion “ Genuine sympathy and empathy ”

C- Calm “ Be grounded and mindful” of the gold standard of any member (Trust & Care)
